Over ten years ago, in the UK, a film called "Calendar
Girls" was made, based on a true story about a group of women who posed,
discreetly topless, for a calendar, which was then sold to raise funds for
cancer patients. The Pink Train Foundation is proud to present Latvia's first
ever "Calendar Girls"! The models featured in our calendar are either
women who have had to face breast cancer themselves, or their supporters –
family, friends, colleagues – because only by supporting each other is it possible
to get through such a difficult period in life. Each model has also written
their message to women with breast cancer in Latvia.
Zinta Uskale, Founder of the Pink Train Foundation: “When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I thought my life was over. I want to prove to women that there is life after a cancer diagnosis – and with a whole new perspective and better quality!”
The calendar photo sessions took place in July this year, in photographer Anita Austwick’s studio in Riga Old Town. The models’ hair and make-up was done by Riga’s Style and Fashion Secondary School teacher Inga Brigadere, and students Annija Složa and Linda Lielauza. The calendar was designed by Anna Smirnova.
Proceeds from the calendar sales will go towards helping women in Latvia diagnosed with breast cancer, covering the costs of counselling and physiotherapy sessions. These are both important aspects of recovery from the disease, but in Latvia the State does not provide funds for this, so women have to cover these costs themselves. Since the launch of the Pink Train Foundation in April, we have helped nearly 40 women in Latvia with breast cancer.
By purchasing our calendar not only will you be providing a great Christmas present for relatives, friends and colleagues, you will also be helping a worthy cause!
Calendar price: 7 EUR (+postage)
